54th National Rally 2nd - 3rd June 2012 (Stoke Prior, Bromsgrove. UK)

Unfortunately I was unable to get to the 54th National Reliant Rally as my son Harvey was taken ill and with the bleak weather forecast we decided to stay at home.  My brother Geoff however did go and so he has provided a brief report along with a few photos.

This was my first year as the National Rally Chairman so I was hoping that all went well. We had lots of Reliants attend this year with 3-wheelers.com showing both Snoppy and 35 at the rally.

On the Saturday we had a good day out road run to the Black Country Living Museum who also supplied group parking for us as well as a great discount into the Museum. On the Saturday night back at the camp we had a disco Karaoke to sing the night away.

Sunday we woke up to rain, rain and a little more of the wet stuff I think someone had left the tap on upstairs but still this was not going to stop the fun and games. So we moved all the fun into the large hall and then did the opening ceremony so that the fun could begin. We had some new games this year like the Regal racing where you took control of a Reliant Regal van and drove it around the track as fast as you could. Kerry Croxton put in an unbeatable time of only 15 seconds (the car by the way was one of those wonderful remote control jobs). The other new game we had was Rocker box racing. This is just what it says on the tin (Or Rocker box) you take a standard Reliant rocker cover put wheels on it then roll it downhill to see who’s is faster  and who’s looks the best. For the first year we had eight racers which was a great turn out.

We did have the other fun and games you expect to see at the National like movability though this was a limited course due to the weather and the throw the spoons, best homemade crown for the kids and the ROC shop.

Evening entertainment was Elvis, no not our Elvis as lots of people thought, but a very good Elvis impersonator who sang the night away.

35 came away with Best Regent (We know it’s not a Regent but this is the only class for it and it is hoped that the class be changed to Girder Forkers. Also best Restored and oldest car of the day so loads of silver wear to bring home.

In all it was a great rally and all who came said how much they had enjoyed it and loved the fact that there was so much car related things to do. We are hoping to do more next year but for now the Reliantn Gathering at Tamworth is getting ever closer so Elvis and I must start sorting things out for that.
